What Is The Largest Island In The Philippines ?  

The Philippines covers an area of 300,000 sq. km. encompassing 7000 islands. This archipelago lies between Taiwan and Borneo at a distance of 800 kilometers from the mainland of Asia.

The 7,000 islands are broadly bifurcated into 3 groups: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Of these three groups, Luzon Island is reported to be the largest one occupying 105,000 square kilometers of land. Mindanao Island falls next in line covering an area of 95,000 square kilometers.

The largest island of the Philippines, Luzon is situated in the northern portion of the country with a population of approximately 30 million. The geographical features of Luzon include huge stretches of rain forests. The Cordillera Central is a prominent land aspect characterized by a mountain range having active volcanoes. The entire island is promising in terms of tourism. The northern part offers scenic beauty in the form of caves, rice terraces at Banaue, the hanging coffins at Sagada and the volcano eruptions of Mount Pinatubo. Manila, the capital of Philippines is situated in Luzon, and is the economic hub of the region. All government agencies are also situated in the capital city.
