Following the 6 days war in June 1967, it was occupied by Israel. Although, Israel unilaterally disengaged from the city of Gaza, in Gaza strip, in the year 2005, it is believed globally that it continues to exercise military control over the airspace, land borders, territorial waters of this region. However, presently, the region is said to be controlled by Hamas, an Islamic Resistance organization, that won the Palestinian Elections in the year 2006. Although, not democratically elected, Hamas have taken over the Gaza strip since July 2007. Nevertheless, the Hamas government in the Gaza Strip has been isolated by the international community.
