Mexico City is a very highly populated in many cities of the world. The city ranks eleventh in the world for dense population. It is believed to be one of the most populated cities in the entire world, and majority of the populace resides within the precinct of the urban area.

It is estimated that seventy percent of the population reside in the urban area of the city. The estimated figure of population in the city is over twenty million. Several surveys have been conducted in the past years and the recorded survey of the city has observed the population in the age group of 15-64. A survey conducted in the year 2006 gave a figure of around 11 million in Mexico City. The population growth rate is recorded as 1.16 percent in the year 2006 with birth rate of 20.69/1000 and the death rate being less than the birth rate is found to be 4.74/1000.

The city has dense population on the border areas of the city, especially on the border of the US and Mexico City. This dense population is found on the border line because of the increasing industrialization and developed centers near the border of the city. The rapid growth in the population is seen along the border line and cities such as Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana and Guadalajara. These cities are densely populated with other cities like the Puebla and Monterrey which also has recorded rapid growth in the past years.

The significant rise in the population of the city is observed because of factors like migration from the other countries like Chile, Argentina, Cuba, Venezuela and Peru. Also, people from parts of Central America have migrated into the city that has increased the population.
